Forester / Quality Control Inspector

We are looking for an experienced Forester to care for our operations in the Licking, Missouri and surrounding area. As a Forester, you’ll travel the woodlands in search of the highest quality timber for our manufacturing needs. As an added benefit, you’ll see the direct results of your effort as you inspect poles for quality and conformance with ANSI and customer standards.
In this role, you’ll learn a great deal more about forestry and quality control in the utility poles industry - all while seeing beautiful countryside and enjoying nature along the way!

JOB DESCRIPTION
- Procurement of utility poles from open market suppliers.
- Evaluating timber stumpage sales for purchase of utility poles.
- Pursuing and evaluating timber lands for purchase.
- Manage company-owned lands.
- Pursuing and evaluating private landowners for enrollment in the Bell Timber’s Management Assistance Program for forest landowner assistance.
- Identifying and marking forest products to meet company specifications.
- Set-up of all company-controlled timber sales including: management plan development, timber marking, surveying, road layout, reporting, and notification processes.
- Coordination of tree planting as needed.
- Assist in the marketing of forest products not utilized by the company.
- Assist in initial forest products accounting and general daily office activities.
- Assist in the scaling of forest products delivered to company yards and on remote sites.
- Attend all necessary training activities to remain current on forest management techniques and industry requirements.
- Measure moisture content of poles after kilning process, ensuring they meet product standards.
- Identifying poles or groups of poles that do not meet the specifications as interoperated by Bell Lumber & Pole Management.
- Properly identify any defects, limited or prohibited, and apply the proper grading rules per ANSI, AWPA, ASTM, REA standards.
- Accurately complete and maintain inspection records.
- Effectively communicate the results of inspections to your Supervisor, Quality Control Manager and Plant Manager.
- Communicate effectively among other Quality Control Inspectors, internal and external independent inspectors.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of two years experience in forestry preferably to include timber marking, surveying, management plan development, industry requirement training, GIS/GPS experience, and contractor/trucker administration/relations.
- A minimum of a two-year degree in forestry with preference of a four-year degree.
- Experience in quality control a plus.
- Physical ability to conduct sometimes strenuous field tasks for long periods.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of various public ordinances, laws, and industry requirements and practices.
- Proficient personal computer skills with spreadsheets, databases, word processing and electronic communications.
- Ability to cover a large work area and to include regular overnight stays.
- Valid Class C driver’s license in base state. Base state is Missouri.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms and is occasionally required to sit, talk and hear, and to use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, infrequently lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. The work environment characteristics are best defined as an outdoor environment with exposure to elements such as heat, cold, precipitation, wind. Employees will have moderate exposure to noise as heard in pole production yard, including exposure to higher noise levels associated with power equipment. Employee will have light exposure to the chemicals and solutions used in treating wood. The job may occasionally require overtime.
